Future of Data Science and Big Data

Our mission is to develop Data Science and Big Data methods and solutions for the benefit of humanity, to develop our understanding of phenomena that surround us. Vast quantities of data in the Internet are a reflection of our culture and our environment transformed into Petabytes of ones and zeroes. This data changes constantly, indicating the pulse of our world and in its complex patterns you can find the seeds of our future, predicting the outcome of any event.

Big Data Demystified

You know relational databases? SQL? Okay, good. Then you know that databases contain gigabytes or terabytes of data, and all those bits of data relate to each other using relational keys. Relational databases are usually quite complex and you have to design them before you can store anything.

Big Data databases may contain hundreds of terabytes or petabytes data. Biggest difference is that Big Data is non-relational. Basically you just store large files (e.g CSV-files). You do not have to design any database schemes or tables.

However, you may use scripts similar to SQL to acquire data from these files for further analysis. While relational databases are usually very fast, Big Data databases are quite slow.

Data Science Demystified

Data Science is a multidisciplinary field where you are programmer, data analyst, mathematician, statistician and database expert. Data Scientist is also familiar with machine learning, data mining, predictive analytics and natural language processing.

Usually Data Scientist analyzes vast amounts of data stored in Big Data repositories. He has to know how to search, acquire and combine data from different sources. This process involves developing programs that find data needed in analysis.
